Marks of a Disciple

Marks of a Disciple

What are the marks of a true disciple according to Jesus?

Disciples abide in God’s Word. Their lives are saturated in the scriptures, and this leads to true spiritual freedom.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32 (ESV)

Disciples love one another, following Christ’s example as their standard.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35 (ESV)

Disciples bear fruit to the glory of the Father. Fruit includes our witness, worship, and character, all increasing in holiness and honoring God before a watching world.

By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
John 15:8 (ESV)
