Successful Sharing of the Gospel

Successful Sharing of the Gospel

The following outline is from Nick and Angela Corrova. They shared these points with our congregation over four different Sundays this spring.

Taking the initiative to share Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and leaving the results to God. (Dr. Bill Bright, co-founder of Cru)

  1. Take the Initiative!
    1. Ask God for, and nurture a missional mindset.
    2. Pray for specific people and opportunities.
    3. Keep some margin in your life to ensure time for conversations when God opens doors for them.
    4. Be intentional to spend time with not-yet-believers (i.e. garden club, playground or poolside down time, pizza/game night invitations to neighbors).
    5. Trust God for courage and step out in faith!
  2. Transition the Conversation to Spiritual Things
    1. Practice “raising the flag” until it becomes a natural way of life. Let your light shine!
    2. Try the power of “Sometime…”
    3. Ask open-ended, more heart-level questions (i.e. “So, what’s your spiritual background?” or “What are you reading right now?” or “How do you maintain balance/perspective in your life?”)
    4. Listen well…and then be ready to share your thoughts when they return the question!
  3. Clarify and Speak Out Your Unique Story
    1. How were things like for you before you trusted Jesus as your Savior? What is life like when you’re not walking with Him?
    2. How did you first place your faith in Christ? What is the Gospel?
    3. What difference does knowing God and living “in Christ” make in your life?
    4. What are you learning about God, His Word, or plan for you? What’s He teaching you now?
  4. Share the Gospel and Pray Some More!
    1. Have your favorite “tools” ready (i.e. booklets like The Four Laws and Knowing God Personally; books that you especially enjoy like More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell, or Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, or The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, or a small paperback volume of The Book of John)
    2. Use technology to spread the Love and Truth of God (i.e. Facebook, email, apps like “God Tools” and “Jesus Film Media”)
    3. Pray some more!
