Sermons on Easter
Ten Looks at Jesus: The Resurrection
On the resurrection day, the ladies who followed Jesus rushed to the tomb to finish the burial that was done hastily on the day of the crucifixion. They were filled with sorrow and grief. But they were surprised with joy when the angel said to them Jesus has risen. Nothing can explain how the stone rolled away, nor how he was able to pass the Roman soldiers who were guarding the tomb, except that He was risen and He was…
Ten Looks at Jesus: The Triumphal Entry
Today we look at Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. In the Book of Isaiah 50:7, the prophet described the suffering Messiah as setting his face like flint. It was an expression of Jesus’ unwavering determination to suffer and die for us. Join us as we learn about 3 characteristics of Jesus from this event. We can also be sure that this humble and suffering Messiah will be coming again as a victorious King to whom every knee will bow. As…
Our Risen Lord
The disciple Thomas remained in doubt and despair for a full week after the crucifixion, unconvinced by the verbal testimony of others who had see the risen Jesus. When Christ appeared to Thomas and invited him to see and touch His wounds, Thomas proclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” Today our doubts are cured through the reading of God’s Word (John 20:31). A true seeker who reads the Scriptures can find faith. Like Thomas, let us submit to the lordship of Christ.
The Savior Who Triumphs
Philippians 3:20-4:1 declares that our citizenship is in heaven. This is a grace-based promise, not a merit-based wishful thinking. We eagerly await the return of our risen Lord and Savior. At Christ’s return, He will transform our lowly bodies, by His divine power, to be like His glorified body. Therefore, let us stand firm in the Lord.
What the Resurrection is About
Easter is about forgiveness, hope, and worship. Jesus died on the cross to secure our forgiveness, and rose from the grave to prove that our forgiveness is secure. We have the certainty of a living hope through the resurrection. Our response should be to confess our belief in the resurrection and trust in Christ for the forgiveness of our sins. Praise God for a living hope from a living Savior!
Feet Worth Touching
God’s almighty power was on display in the resurrection of Jesus “… [Jesus] was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:14). Jesus openly foretold His death and resurrection (6 times in the gospel of Matthew), proving His unchanging reliability. The resurrection validates the public crucifixion that was planned by God to atone for our sin. Christ’s victory is total, and His forgiveness is available to all.
Jesus, Who is God Over All
In Romans 9:1-5, Paul declares his sorrow over Israel’s rejection of Christ, the Messiah. Paul proclaims the deity of Christ: “God overall, forever praised.” Christ is the one true living God, sovereign over all. He is worthy of our praise, today and for eternity.
Why Jesus was Raised
The resurrection is evidence that God accepted the sacrifice of Jesus as explained in 1 Corinthians 15:17. If Christ did not rise, our faith is worthless and we are still in a state of unforgiveness, answerable to the holy God for our sin.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (1 Peter 1:3)” This hope is freely available to all who believe. Let us worship the risen Jesus!
He Has Risen
What if the Gospels did not end with the resurrection? “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith!” (1 Corinthians 15:14)
Jesus, the Risen Lord
Matthew 28:1-9 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the…
A Vision of the Risen Christ
Revelation 1:9-20 I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna…
Jesus has Risen
Mark 16:1-6 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it…
Jesus is Our King
Mark 11:1-10 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send…
