How to Meet God
Holy Bible

We have all been created by God, who loves us and desires for us to have a relationship with Him. Then why do we feel so far away from God? The pathway to a restored relationship with our Creator is revealed in the Good News, or Gospel, found in the Bible.

Gospel is the English translation of the Greek word that means Good News! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is Good News for mankind. It is Good News that God has provided the means by which sinful man may be reconciled to God.

In honesty and humility, we admit that we are not what we should be. We do not think and act in ways that are pure and righteous and good. We are self-centered people. We think little of our neighbors. We seldom consider God, let alone make Him the focal point of our lives. This is the biblical definition of a sinful people.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way. (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 53:6, NIV)

Our sin creates a chasm between God and ourselves; a chasm we are unable and unwilling to bridge in our sinful state. But isn't God a loving God? Yes, but He is also a just, holy and righteous God. An acceptable payment, a sacrifice must be offered in atonement for our sin. Yet what can we offer in our total unrighteousness? Unfortunately, the truthful answer is "Nothing."

A loving God provided the atonement, the payment, the sacrifice. In His mercy God offers us a gift of grace, a gift for which we are totally unworthy and undeserving. God gives this grace through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8, NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16, NIV)

Jesus Christ, born of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, left His place in heaven along side the Father, became man, and lived a perfect, sinless life. In His death on the cross He took the punishment we deserved upon himself. And God accepted this sacrifice as full payment for the sins of any who would accept His gift, His Son.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)

Yes, God's gift of salvation and promise of eternal life may be received through faith in his Son, Jesus Christ.

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:10-12, NIV)

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." (Romans 10:9-11, NIV)
