Adult Classes for Fall 2010 (September 19 - December 26)
Do you find the Old Testament too long, strange, and confusing? This class will give participants a framework from which to better understand the OT as a whole. Proceeding in chronological order, we will look at the historical and geographical backgrounds, authors, dates, etc. of each book so that we may better understand what God was saying to the people who received them. However, our main objective is to survey the content so that we may see the big picture and apply what God is saying to us today.
Have you ever been discouraged or confused by suffering for making the harder right choice in order to do what pleases God? Peter’s first letter gives us reasons to stand strong for Christ, reminding us of His example and our hope in Him. His second letter gives us a solid foundation of truth and reality regarding the final destiny of the godly and the ungodly, giving us specific guidance on how we are to live today in light of Christ’s coming return. If you need encouragement in keeping your eye steadfastly fixed on the Lord Jesus, this class is for you!
Just exactly what is so mysterious about the Gospel? And what are the Gospel’s specific implications for us as a church and as individuals, particularly in our relationships today? Ephesians was written to stress the Christian’s spiritual blessings in Christ and the need to live a lifestyle that reflects those spiritual blessings. The letter introduces us to challenging and yet glorious words and concepts such as chosen, adopted, redeemed, and sealed, and how they tie into God’s big picture. Come join us as we explore the breathtaking mystery of God’s will that He purposed in Christ for us.
How should we interpret and apply to our lives the stories narrated in the Old Testament? Should our primary concern be with individual character studies? Should we find principles to live by within the narrative of each account? Or is there another option? This class will study the book of Genesis as inspired literature. We will closely observe the fabric of the Genesis narratives and find the Story of Redemption in its early stages…a story in which we participate as believers each day.
